Over the last few months, I’ve been having an internal debate with myself over whether I should go Amazon exclusive. There are good reasons both for and against being Amazon exclusive. On the plus side, Amazon has launched a number of programs in the last few months to give a better reading experience to readers while providing more benefits to authors. On the down side, it means readers that don’t like Amazon won’t be able to buy my books.
However, I’ve had to make the tough decision that there are more people using Amazon’s lending library and unlimited than there are on Kobo, Smashwords, iTunes and Barnes & Noble combined. For anyone not aware, Amazon require exclusivity in order to be in their lending library and the unlimited program.
So I’ve decided to go Amazon exclusive for the moment and see how it goes. This means a couple of things for my readers:
– Shortly, the books won’t be available anywhere but Amazon. So if you want to get them on a different platform, they’ll only be available for a few more days.
– Hard Vacuum 1 and The Bite on the End of the Line won’t be free for much longer. If you haven’t grabbed a free copy, do it now. They’ll go up to 99 cents/pence automatically when Amazon’s algorithm catches that they aren’t available on other platforms.
I hope this change won’t inconvenience people too badly. I may change back again in the future, but for the next little while it’s the decision that benefits the most readers.
Thanks for reading!
